Hypo Question

Can all fish tolerate the gradual lowering of s.g. down to 1.009?
My LFS told me that clowns could be killed by doing this????
From what I've read here that's not true. I'm looking for some expert advise for future reference.
Thanks!

Boney fish are the only fish that are appropriate for hyposalinity. That would exclude fish like sharks and rays. Clownfish are fine for hypo.
Does your LFS even know what hypo is? My guess is that they haven't got a clue.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. I thought they were mistaken... :) How many long have you been at fish keeping? I've seen some of your tanks and they look fantastic! How long have you been doing hypo? I appreciate all the help that I've gotten at this site. You've been a great big help to me.

I started the marine hobby in the late 80s having done FW before that...starting with goldfish ;) when I was just a kid.
Hypo started to become popular for use with ich about 3 yrs ago or so, though it was known and used before then by more experienced hobbyists. I've been advocating for hypo essentially since coming to this BB in 2000. It can safely be used as a QT procedure for bony fish, regardless of visible presense of ich.
Thanks for the comments on the tank! I actually only have 1 display tank, 1 QT, 1 aerated saltwater makeup tank, and one RO/DI water collection container....takes more "add on" tanks to support this hobby than actual real tanks! LOL
