hypo

Well, I am not sure... but I think my Anemone might be dead. I posted a thread in the Clown and Anemone forums. Well, now my only invert is the Cleaner Shrimp. So I am wondering if I can take him out and hypo my whole tank. Maybe I can set up a tank for him (the shrimp) for the whole time. Will it need a subtrate? Does the srhimp need anything special? Thanks

Do you have any fish in the tank now? You do not need to take the shrimp out if there are no fish. Parasites leach off of fish, not inverts. You do not need to do hypo to kill ich if there are no fish.

No, I have fish in my main tank with ich. So I was wondering if I could take the shrimp out a hypo the whole tank.

well you cannot do hypo in a tank with live rock and live sand. You will kill a lot of your biological that way.

The guy at my LFS said that I can bring my salinity down to 1.012 and it will be OK for the anemone and cleaner shrimp. But he said that if they start to look really bad, then I should bring it back up.

well I will have to disagree with that, but do whatever you think is best.

Well in that case, I think he is very wrong on that advice. If the anemone is close to being dead, he will be dead for sure after that salinity drop.

If your anenome is the only thing sick, I wouldn't do anything else. They are far to hard to keep and your chances of keeping one alive are not good.

he is not doing hypo for the anemone, he is doing it for the fish...

You could always take the live rock out of the tank and put it in a tub filled with tank water. You'll have plenty of tank water if you do hypo in the main tank. You'll have to put all your live rock and your shrimp in there. I've done hypo in a tank with live sand and there were no problems other than a small amount of nitrate jumps.
I don't know what you'd do with your anemone though, it probably isn't healthy to put it through hypo.

I am definatly not buying anymore fish until my tank is runnning stable and healthy for at least a month.
