I would reather not if possible. I don't have the QT tank set up yet, but have spare water in my display tank. I read the thread in the beginning, but really want to know what to use if I ave to use meds. PLEASE HELP!!!!

ich doesn't usually look like cotton, more like sand or salt sprinkles on the fish and doesn't eat away at the fish, can you get a picture of it? do a search on cotton on the board, maybe there is a pic of someone's fish with the 'cotton' on it.

You do not need to use meds to thread ich, just use the hypo. However, make sure that what you are dealing with is actaully ich. Have you added new fish resently?

Dont sound like ich, it may be a fungus. I had a fish with what looked like someone went inside it and poped a cotton ball out of it and it continued to get larger. Try a search for the fungus called Saprolegnia. Thats the closest description I got from my searches on the net. ("It is classified by the algae like, cotton like appearance on the fish's skin", but there was no picture) I'm not saying this is what you have, but does it look like that?

I have not been able to take a recent pic of her clearly, but in this pic, you can clearly see the spot on her fin that is eating away at it. Also, you can see a few spots on her face. Please help, I want to identify this before it is too late.

Wow, beautiful fish! I believe ich is very likely. Treat with hyposalinity. Feed with garlic soaked food.

I have what might turn out to be a stupid question. How do you go about soaking the food in garlic? Is there a garlic solution I can buy, or just crush some garlic and let the food sit in it for a while?

Yes, there is a garlic solution that you can get from the LFS. Using this is the easiest thing to do, but it costs more money. You can also crush garlic up, saving the juice, and then soak the food in this. Either way, soak for an hr in the refridgerator before offering it to fish.
