i am currently treating for ich in my 55 i lowered the salinity but to not to low but should i use some copper in there? or jus let the hyposalinity do its thing???
How much did you lower the salinity? If low enough you could probably try that for a while and if it doesn't work then use copper. Another idea would be to use garlic and marinate their food or even purchase a cleaner shrimp.
Hyposalinity will work if used correctly. Lower the specific gravity to 1.009. Leave fish at this level for 1 month after all visible signs of ick are gone.
In the case of ick, hyposalinity is the better choice, IMO. Hypo and copper work equally effective, but with hypo you do not have the detrimental and toxic effect on fish you get with copper.
Hypo works great if done correctly. Your SG must be dropped to 1.009 but you must be sure you are actually at 1.009. Most hydrometers are not accurate enough. Buy a refractometer or gauge your hydrometer against one to know where you are at. Hyposalinity is well tollerated by most fish, where as copper can kill if not done properly, especially with angels.
