Hyposalinity Question?

So, let me make sure that I have this right in my head. While my fish are in QT/Hyposalinity tank, my main system will rid itself of ick over a 4 week period as long as there are no host fish present. Is that accurate? I have soft corals, shrimp, snails, starfish, and crabs in my reef system, which will not host ick, correct?

Yes. The ich parasite requires a fish host at one point in its lifecycle. If that host is not present, the ich cannot reproduce, and dies off.

In all the research I've done, the suggested time to keep the display fish-free is 6-8 weeks. It has something to do with catching the ich that is in the very beggining stages of its life cycle.

Correct. Three to four weeks is sometimes said, but people have reported ich returning past then. 6-8 weeks is safest.

I too agree with the 6-8 week timeframe. Plus, don't add anything else including inverts or corals to your dt during that time, ich can travel on those too. I made that mistake myself.

Actually, I think that is the best time to add new corals and inverts. Just don't add them within a month of returning your fish.
