Guys, Brought my tank down from 1.023 to 1.0215 Waited 2 hours, now dropped it down to 1.020....
I get home 730 pm tonight... Should I drop it another 6 points over 3-4 hours?? Do same tomorrow until at 1.009??
I pressume to bring salt back up I add pre mixed salt water that I have on hand, with smaller water changed over 5-7 days back up to 1.023.. Or Do I mix salt into water??
Thx in advance..

There was a recent post where someone dropped the SG from 1.026 to 1.009
without ANY intermediate dilutions and found that the fish looked 'bad' for 24 hours (swimming sideways/upside down) but seemed no worse for the mistake after that....IMHO you should drop the salinity over a minimum of 48 hours, and better still 96 hours, if you do not have a bad ICH outbreak. Less stress on the fish. Bringing it back up
over 5-6 days as you suggested is a good plan.

Yep, as stated above, you will want to bring it down a few points every few hours so that it takes 48 hours to totally get it down to 1.009.
When you begin to raise it, you want to do this much slower. Take a full week to do this.

The more gradual you can bring it down, the better for your fish. 4 points every 3 hours is harsh (just an example) gradually in small increments all day long is much better.

When I add any water, I just put it in an empty gallon jug with a pin-hole poked in the bottom and sit the jug on the corner of the tank - drip it in gradually. Or you can take a 3 or 5 gal bucket and drip it in with an airline.

Peck....How do you maintain your ph/alkalinity with direct addition of RO water?
