hyposalinity without a refractometer?

Okay. Well, that's pretty much my question...I have a positive ID on the "ickies" in my tank. Moving 2 fish to HT...I'd like to treat with hyposalinity instead of copper but I can't really afford $100. for a good hydrometer or refractometer right now...can I go ahead using my "Seatest" floating needle type? or should I go ahead and use copper...I've seen conversion tables for hydrometers (depending on your temperature, right?) but how do I know what temperature mine was calibrated for to begin with? So, if I can't get a good refractometer right now, should I just go ahead with the copper treatment or are there any other suggestions? Thanks a lot for any input!!
