hyposalinity working?

I have my female maroon clown in the HT. Over the past few days I lowered the salinity down to .012. Yesterday I notices some thing expanding around her head. Is this normal? Will they fall off? I am also adding Myacin (sp?) for any seconday infection. I guess I want to know if I am doing the right thing. Any advice would be helpful.

What do you mean .012??? If you are trying to do hyposalinity, the target is 1.009. .012 would be way to low.
What exactly is wrong with the fish? Ich? What do you see expanding? Does the fish need antibotics? Do you see an infection going on?

Hate to jump in here but I live by Grump, and know the story. He has the HYPO at 1.012, and his clown has ich. It did kind of look like her dorsal fin had become a little infectiouse, or maybe just a little eaten away by the ich. I will have to walk down to his office and ask him the current situation(yes we work together also).

Well, the target is 1.009, anything more than that is useless. Also, swing arm hydromters are not accurate enough for hypo. Need more details about whatever else is on the fish.
I'm assuming the fish are in the display tank? What kind of tank is it?

Yes a swing arm hydrometer is not good enough, with hyposalinity you have to have a more accurate form of measurement.
All the best,
Tim.
