Hyposalinity

My 2 blue hippo tangs came down with ich about a week and a half ago. My LFS told me to treat with copper being that it is a FO tank. I have treated with copper for the past week and a half and havent had much success. Today I was told to start Hyposalinity. I was told to take out 5 gallons of salt water everyday and replace it with 5 gallons of freshwater. The goal is to eventually get the specific gravity to 1.010. Does this sound about right to everyone? About how long should I keep the specific gravity this low? Some added info: My tank is 92 gallon bow front, crushed coral and dolomite base, no live rock, 600GPH filter on back of tank, 79-80 degrees, 2 hippo tangs, 3 percs, 1 coral banded shrimp, 1 decorator crab, and 3 red hermits. Thanks for the help.

So let me make sure I'm reading this correct.
Hyposalinity is just lowering your salinity down to 1.009?
How does this help fish?

only fish can live in it! as in, inverts and parasites (ich) can not survive in such low levels of salinity. Do a search here. You will find tons of material on this topic.
