HypoTreatment Q's

Well I've had my water at 1.009 for approximately a week and I notice a hermit crab is still alive. It was one I missed, but shouldn't he be dead? Does this mean that my salinity readings are a tad off, i used a hydrometer. I zero'ed my hydro with bottled water and then messured my salinity, it was at 1.008. How long can inverts survive at that salinity?

Your salinity is off...for sure...if your crab is still alive....a hydrometer is not repeat NOT the thing to use...you need a refractometer...if you don't have one find someone who does..or buy one ASAP...

I've been doing hypo on my QT tank with my fish for well over a week...everything is fine...the ick has dropped off the fish...but I've been using a refractometer...and checking salinity and ph daily....no problems here...

My bad... I keep saying hydrometer, I am actually using a refractometer.

If this is something I should know right away, I apologize. The reason the hermit crab is in my tank when I was doing Hypo is that he was hiding. My question is:
Can hermit crabs survive any time being in 1.008-1.009 water, or are my measurements off? I am using a refractometer zeoed with distilled water.
P.S.> If you don't want to touch this post because I am missing something way obvious please advise. But otherwise, I've read about hypo and doing it for the first time, I'd kind of like support from other hobbiests. Thank You

Hey Terry, can you help me out on this one. I know your watching. Your input would mean a lot to me.

Thanks Terry. The crab is out. He is not gonna be the ol canary in the coal mine. Thanks for the feedback. I'm pretty nervous doing hypo for the first time. If you can help me through this in the coming weeks, that'd be great. I'm the only one in my "fish circle" that is doing hypo right now or even has done it.

How long will the fish live in hypo?
I noticed that my wet/dry is holding more water since I went
hypo. Is this true or just me?

I noticed that with my wet dry also. The flow was faster. So fast in fact that it went at such a fast pace that the overflow was starting to flood, so I had to take out the prefilter sponge.

Hey Irenicus,
I noticed you performed Hypo with a refractometer. What was your readings when you used a refractometer. When I use mine is reads SG 1.010 on the left and 14 ppt on the right. If you used 1.009 on your fish what was your salinity reading??? I'm just trying to see if this refractometer is reading correctly.
Thanks

I have it just below 14 PPT. I'll do another reading this evening when I get off work. :)
