Just got back from vacation. My house sitter did a great jiob of taking care of my two big tanks, but didnt put any water in my 10 gal frag tank. ugggggg
it was only about half full when I got home. Everything in there is half dead or dead. I added water to it over an a couple of hours and have water mixing to do a 50 percent water change. I am just sick over it. I have noooo Idea why she didnt top off this tank, esp when it is sitting right where she has to walk by it everyday. My small leather is almost all melted, all the zoos are closed up, some are white (I am sure those are dead). I have a small frag of pink xenia I have been babying that dosent look good, my red PPE are closed but still have some color - i hope they make it.
this just stinks.

That is no fun. I agree with running some carbon if you are not already. Carbon and the fresh water should bring anything still alive back, especially the zoas they are tough. And good luck!

I thought of that, but would hate to have dieing corals foul my other tank.
I may try a few.

That is a REALLY high salinity level.......Double what the tank normally is. Good luck, that would really be a horrible thing to come home to.

UPDATE-nothing has opened yet, but have hopes for a few that havent turned white. In all so far I have no hope for at least 5 or 6 frags that were 10 plus polyps, and 5 or 6 frags that may pull thru. I lost a toadstool leather-it just melted when i touched it) and a nice colt frag - also melted. My pink pompom xeinia that I was babieing is all but gone and my clove polyps look really bad. I think some on the loose shrooms may make it.
I lost all the stomboli snails in there, but the emerald crab seems ok.

that stinks. every time i have to leave i either get someone to tank sit that knows what they are doing, or i leave a very detailed sheet of what to do and when. i leave my supplements in dixie cups for them to pour in, what foods to feed on which day, and a 20 gallon trash can filled with temperature acclimated and dechlorinated top off water, just in case.

this is why i keep it to 1 simple tank besides space/cost.
when i went away for 10 days last year, 2 weeks prior to leaving i started bringing down my salinity level to almost 1.022
this way, nobody had to touch my tank. i returned to a 1.024 salinity, everything still kickin.
might not be a bad idea for your next vacation...
sorry to hear about your losses.

update-well i have 4 colonys that are starting to open. I can see a little color thru the mouth. The rest are still closed or white or completly gone.
The leather and colt are gone, and one very tiny piece of pink xenia can be seen.
