My Tomatoe clownfish spawned 8 days ago. The babies are soon to hatch. Eggs have turned bright silver and I see black dots for eyes. Here is what happened.
* A few days ago I prepared a new round bowl/tank and spray painted it black to hatch and raise the clownfish larvae in. Washed the bowl and set it up.
* Took water from the tank Mom & Dad are in and put it in the fry bowl.
* Added an airline tubing - large bubbles - no mist. Got that going.
* Installed a Hagen tiny heater designed for tanks 2 gallons or less.
* At this point the temp was the same as mom & dads tank. I moved the rock with the eggs on it to the gold fish bowl. Gave mom and dad new slate to spawn on again.
* The Hagen thermo starting going wacky and temps were not consistant. I hate their fluval filters, I think I hate everything they make. The dial on the thing has no specific temp setting. Went to take it out of the bowl and it broke. Out in the garbage it went.
* Put in a larger heater and set temp for appx 78. For some reason, the heater was making the water climb to 84.5. I lowered the heater temp dial and when I went to bed at 2:30 a.m., the temp was around 84.
* I got up this morning, and the temp in the baby bowl was up to 87.5. I shrieked
Lowered the heater to about 76 and finally got the temp down to around 80. I am so upset.
Do you think the babies are toast by now, or do they have a chance to hatch? I look into the bowl top with a flashlight and I see the silvery eggs, haven't hatched - but I am worried now.
I am angry with Hagen for making inferior products.
I am angry at myself for not setting up the bowl and establishing temp a day or two sooner before I moved the kids. The reason why I didn't is because they same the babies should be placed into a fry tank that has the same water as the mom/dad tank. Plus, in a small bowl I didn't want to deal with evaporation and salt level changes.
Any thoughts of survival, or advice. I am so upset.
