Okay guys I need some info.........I set up a new tank over a week ago for some new seahorses..now the problem is the damn thing has not began to cycle. The ammonia has never spiked or anything. Now I did use LR and LS from the other cycled tank and took some filter floss to help establish the new filter. Is it possible I did not throw myself into a cycle because of established bacteria in the LR,LS, and the filter floss? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have never seen this. I thought at least I would see somewhat of an ammonia spike or something!!! Nothing is going on in this tank:mad: and I am getting pis*ed off.
HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!

if you have put in a cultured bacteria capable of a higher bioload than before - there is nothing TO cycle. In addition, if you have no bio load at all - there will be no cycle.
Try putting in a piece of shrimp. It should cycle - because there is no bio load. NOW, monitor it closely when you first put it in - it is very possible the established bacteria may not cause a full blown cycle - but a simple "spike" that returns to normal shortly.

lol that sucks maybe you didnt throw enough thing to decay in the tank or maybe it already cycled well not realy probaly because not enough things to decay so ammonia couldnt go up so high.

Chill, everything is all good- I have had tanks that never cycled b/c the LR i put in was already cured, since all of the stuff you put in is established you can sart adding your livestock- but do it slowly- Some tanks dont need to cycle- When you get a cycle- it is b/c the bacteria cant handle the amount of waste- ans since you obviously have enough bacteria- thre is no cycle:) HTH

How about your nitrites? When I set up my 125 I used ls, lr and a little water from my 20 and never saw much in the way of an ammonia spike (maybe went up to 0.2 ppm, which was a lot less than when I set up my 20) but my nitrites did go up pretty high, but within 2 weeks the readings were pretty stable and back down to 0 for both ammonia and nitrites and the nitrates have been less than 10 ppm. I have assumed that it was because I added all the good stuff to the tank but I don't know that for sure.

Some tanks just flat out don't cycle. Like J21Kickster said, if you set it up with established media (LR, LS, etc...) it may be fine.
My 28g NEVER cycled. I used cured LR, LS, and initially I had mechanical filtration. I used some established ceramics, and Catalina sea water.

I just found this to be strange...hell I have 3 tanks and all of them have gone thru somewhat of a cycle. I have never used substrate and established filter floss before so that was what was confusing me. lol I always tell people when they buy new filters to use some filter floss from the old one to help seed it, so if this is what they are going thru then hell they prolly want to kick my arss...lmao.
Well thanks for the responses.... I guess that is why my husband calls me itchy........I'm just to damn impatient lol
