THE GUY AT THE LFS TOLD ME THAT I COULD GET THE GREEN MORAY EEL TO PLACE IN MY TANK. I SAID WON'T HE EAT THE SHRIMP, HERMITS, SNAILS, CHROMIS AND EVERYTHING ELSE I HAVE IN MY TANK. HE SAID NO. NOW I WOULD HAVE SAID TO HIME THAT YOU ARE TELLING ME A LIE AND ENDED IT AT THAT, HOWEVER IN HIS TANK HE HAD A GREEN MORAT EEL AND TWO PEPPERMINT SHRIMP BASICALLY WALKING ON TOP OF THE MORAY. IS THIS POSSIBLE. WOULD THAT MORAY CAUSE HARM TO ANYTHING IN THE TANK. I THOUGHT SO BUT I COULD BE WRONG???????????????????????????????????????/

Moray eels are scavengers and uaually go for injured or sick fish, they may also go after large crustaceans, but I dont think they will eat shrimp or snails. Most morays, especially the green ones, get way to big for the average tank. HTH

Not all morays get huge, depends on what size tank your going to keep it in? Keep in mind the can be very hard to feed, and they are escape artists.

I was under the impression that all eels had very poor eye site. Rendering them not that much of a threat for crustations and small fish. I think the green moray has better eye site than most. Basing there hunting skills on scent and striking at general area of where they belive the prey to be. I wouldnt put an eel in a tank if you got alot of shrimp because you would hate to loose some costly blood shrimps or some cleaners. The size that they grow to alone makes a green moray eel not reef safe for most of our tanks. I belive the most compatible eel would be a black ribbon or blue ribbon eel however they are pretty delicite creatures. My brother had a few eel before in some of his agressive set ups. I cant remeber what kinds but I rarely seen it out. In my opinion eels are kinda dull and boring compared to what other types of inhabitants you can have in your tank. Heck I know a green moray runs a pretty penny in the trade and heck I could get about 5 very nice peices of coral for what I seen one up here for. Just my opinion.

I believe ribbon eel's will work well and wont dig like a moray.

not that i am an expert on this by any means, but I have a snowflake moray and he is probably one of the coolest things in my tank.
he never bothers anyone else...the cleaner shrimp are always jumping on him...my tang follows him aorund, and he just doesn't care. Very active as well, it is just they do their thing at night instead of during the day. but he does go for a "swim" when hge feels like it.
In two years he has never eaten anything, and I have some small green chromis...but i just don't think he stands a chance of catching them, and so he nevers tries.
my only advice, would be to add a small eel, as they do grow quickly. Also when they are small, they are less of a threat to others, and hopefully by the time he is large enough to be a threat, he will have learned how to play nice!
good luck with it.

sorry guys i have been working for a few days and have not had time to check back on my post.
i appreciate all of your insight and will use the info wisely.
the fish store i was at was the one on university drive inbetween broward and sunrise. he has his own website called aquacon.com. not to impressed by the info he gave me as i am a beginner and can be fooled into making a bad purchase.
all i can say is thanks to saltwaterfish.com i have been able to make good decisions without getting beat by the saltwater fish store

Yeah I would have to say going to age of aquarium is a waste of time really. Nice owner but the selection lame and usually overpriced. Pet world has consistent lower prices on live stock. Corals goto reef life. Just my opinion and I would say I goto them all each once a week. I'm alittle addicted......hehe
