I don't understand this?

Blame it on the UIL. If they had a problem with it, they'd have the ref stop the game. I've seen it done in high school football. When a team is winning by 40 points or more, and the opposing team is scoreless halfway through the end of the 4th quarter, they call the game. I believe this is a district-by-district decision, and has to be agreed upon by both coaches, but they will stop a game if it's a blowout like this basketball game.
The coach is just playing on instinct. He expects his players to play 110% during a game, and shouldn't have to play any different just because the opponent is weaker. Now it would be prudent to pull all your starters in this type of game to avoid them getting hurt. But I wouldn't tell the 2nd or 3rd string to play 'soft'. They have to be prepared to come into a game when the opponent is better than them.

If he left his starters in deep into the game I would have an issue but if his bench is scoring those points what can I say?
