I feel so bad when i see this...

i work in a fish store, and today this kid and his mother come in and start looking at our saltwater fish section. after a bit of looking around they come up to me and ask for a flame hawk and and a yellow tang. so i start asking a few questions about the tank (like i do with all new costumers). so i turns out these people have a 75, thats a week old, NO live rock or anykind of decoration whatsoever, and no idea what kind of equipment they have and even less about fish. i feel so bad for these people so i start giveing them advice. told them they needed LR and at wait at least a month to add fish and about the ammoina cycle ect. (needless to say i wouldnt sell them any fish, they keep persisting though

) After about a good half hour of telling the what the other store did wrong with there tank they disided not to listen to a word i said and told me i didnt know what i was talking about and "the other guys said that blah blah blah..." you get the picture. they got shafted so badly by some other fish store. and worst yet i over heard them saying that tell will go to the other place and get some fish. i wish they would have listened. In any case ill see them a month when the tank crashes and there tried of wasting money. it breaks my heart to see people get shafted like this, it gives fish store such a bad name and get me so angry

To hell with them if they're not going to use a bit of common sense and do their OWN RESEARCH. It goes without saying - if you want something done right, do it yourself. Unless, of course, you have no clue what your doing, then you shouldn't be anywhere near whatever it is you were planning on doing.

Did you try mentioning places like this site and other message boards where they can get unbiased info to see if you were right?

...People putting Yellow Tangs in their 40 gallon is what I delt with today... I hope she realizes that he will get really big and really miserable.

As long as you have a clear mind and did the right thing, by not selling her the fish......

Maybe next time suggest a good book for her to buy instead.....I understand your frustration, and maybe it's better she does go to the "other" store and buy it, because trust me she will get fed up and either get out of the hobby all together or come back to you with her problems, and this time she'll be ready to listen......Always suggest a good book if they insist on buying something....

Get a book off the shelf to back up what you're saying. I always said "I'll sell them to you if you insist but I won't guarantee them.".

i dont even think a book would have helped, these people wanted fish not help no matter what i said they where hell bent on putting more fish in the tank. on the bright side my friend that works at the other place told me they didnt sell them fish either so i feel bit better.

People are crazy sometimes. If ever a salesperson does not want to sell you something, don't you think a flag should go off that just maybe the salesperson knows what they are talking about?
The lady should have given you trust and respect for not taking advantage of her. I agree. She'll be back.

Even if they did sell to her, you know it would have been disasterous, and you know you did the right thing.....Hopefully when she comes back she'll be alittle more open minded and if not show her the door.

Look at the bright side. At least you have a Flame Hawk and a Yellow Tang that are still alive for now and maybe those fish will get lucky to get some good human pets....
