looks awesome. I too have to do the switch and am waiting til I get some more components (sump/fuge w/skimmer etc.) so I can move out my tank stand only once. Looks great though. Keep us informed if you have a mini cycle or spike or any changes please. Thanks, Barry

I would suggest keeping some amquel+ on hand and testing everyday like you just set up the tank.
I just made the same change and evidently I got the mini-est of minicycles. My ammonia came up just barely to the detectable level and then went to zero in just a few days. Now the same is happening with my trites. Add a bit of amquel and be prepared for a water change.
Other than that I too am glad I made the change

amqel is used to convert ammonia. while i personally find that r/o is so much better than using tap, its great to have on hand in the event of an emergency.

I did use RO learned my lesson the hard way... algae EXPLOSION....
I have ammo-lock - I would assume that does the same thing - just a different brand

Todd, so how much amquel is needed? I saw some online like a 16oz. bottle and a 1 gal. What would I need for my 55 when I do the switch? Thanks, Barry

The 16 oz bottle should do fine, you just use 1 tsp. per 10 gallons, i think. Unless you get a good deal on a bigger bottle just get the 16oz. Its great stuff to keep around for quick fixes. Not a long term fixer though. Todd
