im having a problem with it. I bought a prism skimmer today. And i have it hung on the back of my tank ok. Now i primed it and water was going though it and everything. Then i put the little hose thing on the other slot to let it make air bubbles. Ok i ajusted the flow so that the water level is at the O-ring of the collection cup. But there is still air bubbles going into my tank even with the ajusment all the way closed to where very little water is going in. How do i get rid of these are bubbles going into my tank?
Also how is waste material get from the level of the water into the collectino cup? thanks for any help

I personally dont have a prizm skimmer, but just read a post under fish discussion that may help you out. It was titled F.Y.I. prism skimmer.

Not sure about the prism...but CPR has a web site for dealing with problems with their products.......maybe someone from the board that has knowledge of your type skimmer will help also. Have you tried over at the equip/DYI board....some knowledgeable folks there

First off, the waste will form into a viscous mass of bubbles and be pushed up sporatically into the collection cup. The waste is generally opaque yellow-brown in color...and pretty foul smelling.
In the first few days I really had the skimmer adjustment cranked down so water was barely flowing through it, so bubbles weren't flowing back into the tank. The waste was very fluid/light colored. But I have gradually turned it up and the waste is dark in color You will need to tweak the flow as your water parameters change.
I'm not sure how you can overflow the skimmer though.

na its not a paper wieght prizms are good skimmers for small tanks i love mine just run it so bubles go halfway up the chamber that has oring cup if u get alot of water in collection part ontop its set to high the key is to run it as high as possible without bubles in tank or water in top piece

Sometimes skimmers have a breakin period that will cause bubbles to be released into the main display....personally i don't know why but it will eventually stop if its adusted right and it breaks in...usally takes from 2days to a week or more.........BTW what overflowed the collection cup or the skimmer itself....if its the collection cup then you just have the air turned up too high.....close the valve some! Hope this helps......good luck......happy reefing!

What you're seeing is normal for a Prizm. Try this and it will go away.
1. Place your rubber tube back on the first (left) peg and open the water flow all the way. Let it run that way for a minute until there are no bubbles visible in the take up tube where it goes into the skimmer.
2. Move the rubber tube to the second (right) peg and turn down the flow until you barely see foam on the riser in the middle.
3. Leave it barely foaming for at least a day and then "slowly" tweak it more open until the foam reaches below the o-ring.
Takes a little patience but once it kicks in it does a good job.
Good Luck!

thanks alot, i think i got it to work. No the ting that overflowed was the collection cup but it was not waste, just water from the tank. I had it turned up too high so water was getting into the collection cup. Thanks for the help if i have more problems ill be sure to post. thanks again this board is a life saver
