I got an idea about a 55 fuge!

I got a new 120 tall and it is going to set in front of a window that was left in after an addition was built onto the house. It leads to another room. The plan is to put the 120 on one side or the window and the 55 on the other with U tubes conecting them through the window. I will have the wet dry filter drawing water from the 120 and pumping it back into the 55 and then the U tubes will keep the water flowing between the two tanks.
Sound like a good plan?
This way I can have my big agressive fish and my inverts and plants all in the same large system with out any one getting eaten! :jumping:

You might be heading for a flood. The sump should return to the 120 I hope you have a siphon box incase of power failure. Do another overflow box between the 2 tanks and pump that back into the 120, just glue a barrier for another sump to put the pump in for the 55

To me it does sound like an excellent plan. If you could drill both tanks and connect them the possibility of flooding would be much reduced. the water level in both tanks would have to be a little lower to prevent flooding. It shouldn't be any more dangerous than say a HOB filter box with pump.
But if one tank was much higher than the other, there is a very real possibility of flooding.

I have a 55 fuge plumbed into my 180 g. I have 2 built in overflows from the 180, one goes to my sump where i have my skimmer, heater ect. and a return pump . The other overflow goes into the fuge, the 55 sits slightly higher then the sump and has a drilled bulkhead that overflows back into the sump. This way when the power goes out the sump fills but not the fuge. Just make your sump big enough to hold the overflow from both the display and the fuge.

The only problem with the plan is using the U-tube. That will keep opn syphoning even when the pumpos stop, so you will have a flood. Either drill or use a overflow.
