OMG u guys, the floors in my new house were so disgustingly hideous that they actually made people sick; no joke, everyone who came to visit ended up leaving with puffy eyes and sniffles and scratchy throats. I've had a migraine almost every single day wince we moved in - the disgusting 30yr old shag carpets HAD to go.
This week our contractors FINALLY liberated us of them and carried them off to someplace they belonged; the dump.
Today they started installing the new flooring; a really nice, light laminate flooring in "Natural Hickory." This stuff is AWESOME - it's the kind that clicks together, it came with a really nice underlayment, and I love that all the seperate planks have nice bevels between them. It really looks like hardwood!
They aren't finished yet, but I am so excited I can hardly contain myself

My digital camera broke last week so I had no means of taking photos of the made-over room other than the little camera in my laptop, so as all the contractors stood and laughed at me, I took some awkward photos of it

the first pictures are what it looked like before <<shudders>>
and I think u'll be able to tell which pix are of the new floors

LoL, actually, we did. It's called a "Yard Tractor," and we got it from sears. 52inch mowing deck, and it's a powerful little bugger. we had a near-death experience in it yesterday tho, so we're gonna let it sit for a while 'till we calm down, LoL.
We tried to take it down the driveway (it's about a 5th of a mile of treacherous, rocky dirt road w/ a cliff to one side) and it wouldn't stop for a bit.
we got out and, after allowing our hearts to stop pounding and hands to stop shaking, we pushed it back up. Apparently when they say "DO NOT DRIVE ON A SLOPE" they MEAN it.

I AM loving it, omg.... it's like... a little rediculous how excited I am.... I'm going to have to throw a party for the new floors when they're all finished... and I do believe we are now a "no shoes allowed in the house" family.

great improvement, my moms house is on the market now, and her newest "value enhancer" was putting carpet where the raddy old wood floors used to be. so, the exact opposite of what you did, but same effect. nice flooring!

hard things on the laminate wood flooring leaves scratches and indentations over time - if it has a 'buffer' like the felt it is less likely to leave a scratch and any indentations will be 'softer' in appearance (my brothers armoir left indents in his - but the couch that had felt on it did not)

I had laminate flooring in a basement level family room for 9 years. The felt
'coasters' are a must. Keeps the floors in good shape and allows you to move heavy furnishings around the room with ease. If you have dogs/cats you will still have to vacuum
. Your floors and yard view are great!

thank you! yah we have a basset hound and 2indoor cats - i'm going to have rugs down anyhow, so i will indeed still have to vacuum, but we've got the Dyson Animal, and with all the attachments it makes short work of pet-hair messes. thankfully it also has a "hard floors mode" - where the brush doesn't come down - so hopefully i won't have any scratching due to the vacuum.
