I hate Algebra!! I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it!! In the beginning it was all easy and now its super hard and I hardly understand any of it!!
Some of the problems are easy, but I don't understand most of it!!

Well, that's my rant for today.

wow, out of all the different types of math, algebra always was my most favorite and easiest to handle. what are you having issues with?

Dude mellow out, algebra is easy. It is just a series of rules that you have to follow to reach a solution. You just have to recognise what rules you need to use.

Simple answer to most Mathimatical problems especially algebra is to learn how to use Graphing Calculater it can do any problem. Plus most algebraic equations can be solved by simply inputting the equation in the graph function then just trace the line to find the answers

Algebra was always my favorite. So easy to understand. I was two classes away from getting a minor in mathematics at uni, however I didn't.
When you get into some of the upper level college courses, algebra will save your skin!
Also, when your in business and you are trying to find the answers to common stuff, algebra and trig definately help.

I put it to use quite a bit, but then again, I'm not an adult so...
Anyway, I love Algebra, but Geometry isn't so great imo. In algebra, you just follow the same steps on every problem and try to get a variable by itself.
The more you practice it, the easier it gets imo.

I totally agree, it has been my experience that the hardest part of Calculus isn't the Calc, its the algebraic manipulations that are.
And yes, business is mostly math, unless you are the selling or people person parts.

I know, who'd have though to put letters with numbers...
You're not going to like calculus very much either
Especially doing it without a calculator.

Here is one of the word problems. I'm STARTING to get it. The Lesson I'm doing right now is called Mixture Problems.
Translate the word problem below into an equation; then solve.
A 480-pound alloy (which is just a mixture of metals) containing 30% silver was mixed with an alloy containing 55% silver to get an alloy containing 40% silver. How much pounds of the 55% alloy were used?
I already did the problem above, but that's just a sample.
Here are a few more problems that I really hate and don't understand.
Solve each equation below.
5-2x=3-4x+13
Another
2-4(1/9x)=-6
Another
3(x-4)-9=2(x-6)
Another
1[1-3(x+2)]=-x
I get some of the smaller problems above, but I just don't get the super long ones.

PM me your email I'll work em out for you...
they are simple.
1[1-3(x+2)]=-x
the 1 in front is understood.
1-3x-6=-x
-3x-6=-x
2x=-6
x=-3
remember always do the in parenthesis first, then the multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. a negative times or divided by a negative is a positive. And a negative times or divided by a positive is negative.

Yet to this day I have not used the algebra and calculas I was taught....go figure.
you never have to figure out what overtime is going to be, or how much groceries are going to be? algebra is always there.

Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but do you mean help him work them out? because ime having others do it for you just makes it harder in the long run.

always get the variable seperate from everything, while keeping a 1 to 1 ratio:
5-2x=3-4x+13
-5 = -5
-2x = 3 - 4x +13 - 5
+4x = +4x
2x = 3 +13 - 5
2x = 11
1/2 = 1/2
x = 11/2

Here are the correct answers.
5-2x=3-4x+13 x=11/2

2-4(1/9x)=-6 x=18

3(x-4)-9=2(x-6) x=9

2[1-3(x+2)]=-x -2=x

It is all the same if he knows how to do them with a 4 and a 5 he'll know how to do them with a 2 and a 7. You aren't going to learn if you don't know how it is supose to look.

it's one thing KNOWING the answers, and an entirely different thing knowing HOW to get the answers...

I am a middle school math teacher and teach Algebra and PreAlgebra. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Most teachers can figure out what you are not understanding and find another way to explaining how to do it.
