i done seen that the other day, but we had no interwebz at work (the entire block was out of service).
anyways, that tourist should be executed. defacing things like that, to me, are beyond reprehensible.

"He really didn't realize the magnitude of his actions"
Then clearly he will never be mature enough to travel anywhere without his mommy holding his hand.

That's just something you don't do... anyone with morals knows not to do it. Grr.

Well, he could just say that he was high on drugs and out of his mind, then they would just let him off with barely a slap on the hand as he was not responsible for his actions...
WHAT!??
They do it in the US all the time.

If you scroll down a little you can decide what you would want to happen to this guy.

I am very fond of those guys.
When I read that one was damaged a little piece of me really got hurt. But to say "ear for an ear" is rediculous. I will go so far as to say those statues are among my absolute favorite landmarks. I have been to many places.I have seen tons of famous buildings, Statues, Bridges, and Castles.
Those rank in amongst the top. But lets be real, its a carved rock. Thats it. Painful because it is now changed, but not worth physical punishment in my oppinion. A beating or Caning while extreme, would be different and I could be convinced. But to have any administration seriously thinking about perminently disfiguring someone for what they did to a rock is a scary notion.
He could have used dynamite to all of them and I would be bummed, but I wouldnt be chanting "Dynamite for Dynamite". To hear the mayor looking for vengence makes me rethink his abilities.

He is free to go as soon as he pays a fine of $17,000. that is the largest fine ever given on the island. According to the interview, he is happy to pay it and not complain. He admits what he did was really stupid and has realized after all of the publicity how important those status are. What an a$$ if you ask me. The fine should have been higher IMO.
