Are you talking about the air bleed

/device that introduces air into your powerhead? If the skimmer is in the tank, either hob or sump, go ahead and run it to prevent stagnant water as it won't hurt anything as long as the powerhead has a screen/cover on its intake. You should be able find a cheap air
