my two powerheads are starting to die. i have a 55 gallon, and am wondering who makes a good powerhead thats not too expensive. i heard that "RIO's" are a piece of s**t, but i always hear about everyone having them. are "AQUACLEAR" any good? i found the aquaclear 402 for $19 at FISHSUPPLY.COM.
will 2 of these be good for my tank?
HELP ME.....

Can't beat that price. In my 40gallon hosp, I have two cheap penguins,15bucks apiece, they have never failed. My 125 has Haggen(I think) But they are high dollar, and have nothing but trouble with them. GO FIGURE STEVE

The reason a lot of pople use RIO's is because of the price. As far as reliability is concerned, I think because a lot of people use it, the negatives also tend to rise. I am sure other pumps also have failures. I use RIO's and have had no problems so far. And get this, my lfs, has a tank that has a RIO in it running now for almost 3 years. The pump is covered with with as much purple algae that there is on the live rock.

Zoomed makes a new powerhead that is self rotating and creates currents. I have three of them on my 75 and it's nice. Online, they are about $18 (at my lfs they are $35). Unfortunately, they don't come above 160 gph which is not a very fast current or high output number.
