I need advice...on Quarantine

I am getting a 10g QT this morning. I am going to use some water change water from the SH tank and hooking up a penguin overflow type filter on the SH tank to run some good bacteria thru it...I have a sponge from the sump.
My little pipefish will arrive tomorrow, they eat frozen food according to SWF, or a QT couldn't be done. The QT will assure that they are healthy but my problem is the worry of bacteria the horses are not accustomed to from the pipes.
Is there any way to acclimate the horses to expose them to the pipes? Maybe a little water from the QT if the pipes are healthy... so if there is any bacteria it can be adapted to help the horses tolerate it better. Kind of build their immunity kind of thing....thoughts?

Honestly, I don't think it's necessary. If you want to give it a go, then I'd say you're on the right track....after your QT period, take some water from the QT and add it to the horse tank. IMO though this sort of overrides the point of QT being a barrier for cross-contamination.
I may be wrong, but I think the biggest problem between WC pipes and our tank bred horses is internal parasites such as worms. Since these are captive bred animals, I don't think you'll need to fuss with the deworming procedure.
Heh, I remember when I had my dragonface pipe, we collected some of the fecal material, took it to school and used the bio lab microscopes to examine it and look for cysts!

So the problem isn't basic on the normal healthy body bacteria but, bad bugs? I was under the impression that since the species had never been exposed to each other, that they could give each other cutties so to speak. If I only need to worry about the health of the pipes a regular QT for 4 weeks is all I would need.
I was also under the same thought with mixing horse species. They had no bad bugs, but just the basic normal bacteria always found on the critter that the other had never been exposed to.
So now I'm confused.
The "cross contamination" after the normal quarantine time is not a concern since the two would be put into a tank together at that point. so the QTs purpose was met. My thought line is this...you remember the War of the worlds story...the aliens had never been exposed to our germs before...that's how we had a happy ending and beat the aliens.
I don't want to have that kind of ending...so I was thinking of how to cross contaminate them so they are immune to each others bugs.

I just don't think "pre-contaminating" them is going to either help or hinder is all....
Oh well...I just got back...I purchased a 10g tank and a HOB filter. So I need to set it up tonight and get my sponge from the sump in there. Instead of a piece of PVC pipe I opted for a plastic roman column ornament...LOL...it all has to match you know. I was thinking about adding some of the prolifera Caulerpa, since pipes like seagrass. It's easy enough to remove if I have to treat the critters. I don't have to paint the bottom since it is going on top of my dresser and it's dark brown.

I'm sure you know how to set up the QT and am very glad to read you are doing so. With that said, I'm unsure really of what your wanting to accomplish with adding the Qt water into the horse stables?
Personally, I would contact SWF and ask them where these amazing animals come from, meaning, were they tank born and raised vs's captive. I wouldn't want to read a thread where your steed have become ill with something the pipes may have caused.
( just concerned is all )
I saw a link somewhere about raising these two in the same system, I will go hunting for you and find it. I read it because of my two pipes and got real curious.
Until then, good luck. Got my fingers crossed for ya'll.

LOL...I did already check with SWF. The pipe I purchased are tank raised by someone locally. Otherwise I wouldn't attempt to put them in with my horses.
When I first got into keeping SHs, TereseaQ told me to not mix species. When I asked why she told me they had bacteria that the other had never been exposed to. Now we were talking both species being tank raised, so it wasn't disease she was concerned about. The pipefish I was warned about because 99% of them are wild caught and that could spell disaster. So my question was on the tank raised pipes having the same warning the different species of horses had.
I fully plan to quarantine the pipes for 4 weeks. After the 4 weeks and the pipes would be ready to go into the DT....I was asking if I should maybe acclimate the horses tank with water from the QT so the horses could perhaps build an immunity to being with a different species.
Quarantine means quarantine...isolated until proven healthy. I won't be mixing any water or critters until all the hoopla is over. These pipes are supposed to be eating frozen mysis or I couldn't use a QT, they need tons of pods to live. Everywhere you read....pipe and horses go together perfectly but then everyone warns to not do so.
Funny....I was just looking at the calendar, the 4th week of quarantine ends on the 4th month on the 4th day, if all goes well and no disease or death. That should be easy to remember.

YAYYY...caught one pipe eating...now to make sure the smaller one eats. I cut up a bit of the mysis shrimp and fed them. Ladyreefseeker said they were eating frozen mysis and to cut some up if I had a concern about size.. They also pick at the caulerpa...so I might have added few pods in there for them to chase and eat too.
