its possible, if you are running MH lighting, and the temp rises quit dramatically when the lights are on, yeah you will organisms cant handle a big swing in temp. so hes probably right, depends on the situation need more info to be accurate in an answer :jumping:
A cooler? Or a chiller?
If you have heat problems that you just can not resolve via other means, then yes, you need a chiller/heater. Most aquaria, however, can do without them, especially if you have controled cooling/heating in the room where the tank is located.
Yes I guess I mean a chiller!! Its all the same to me! The Tank does have a heater and lights, the room that the tank is in is kept at 75. How hot is the tank suppost to be?
The temp can not change at all when the lights are turned on and off. If he has an expensive set of lights on the tank you could try putting extra fans to move the hotter air away faster. That will keep the tank from heating up too much in the day. Although if that doesn't stabalize the temp. then yes an expensive chiller is needed. nobody ever said this was a cheap hobby.
OK The only reason I am asking this is because we have had the tank for going on 2 years!!! So trust me I do not need any one telling me about the cost!! If you think a tank cost alot try having a baby!!!! But any ways we have a snapper and a blue tang in there!! It is a 90 gal. So the answer to my ? would be YES!!!!
But what is the temperature of the tank? If the room temperature is 75 degrees, and this is not a coral tank (so not strong lighting) then I can't really imagine how your tank would be so warm it would need a chiller (IMO 85 or more degrees). There are far less expensive ways to try and get tank temps down a few degrees. But we need to know what the temperature is.
Constant temp fluctuations of more than 2 degrees can be harmful to your system. If your temp stays below 84 you should be okay provided you have plenty water movement. Determine the highest temp of your system and set your heater accordingly. This will keep it at a constant temp provided it is not over 84 degrees.
