I need to vent >:(

So I have been doing online college for the last year and it was going well until this year. I got enrolled in Florida Institute of Technology through University Alliance, mistake one. I qualified for financial aid and had to make payments out of pocket for what I did not have aid for. No problem since the payments were small and I paid off the balance before the end of the term.
Then,I had to drop two terms. I dropped the one due to my hectic schedule around the holidays and the second because I received a $4,000 bill and I could not afford that at the time. I did try to call my student rep but she was unavailable, so I made the decision to drop the term.
Now, I still planned on continuing with my courses. I planned on enrolling in the next term and emailed my rep. She tells me registration is almost over that I would have to pay a late fee and get a $4,000 balance on my account taken care of and to email the financial aid office. Other than that she can't help. I email financial aid they say my balance is $400. I forward rep the email from financial aid. She tells me I still can't enroll due to the balance and to contact financial aid office and let them know what they say. Stupid rep says I have to pay a fee for late registration and figure out how to get my own books since the next term starts Monday. WTF. Stupid rep seems to forget she gets paid commission on my enrollment.
Then, today I get 2 emails saying that 2 deductions for payments are going to be charged to me for terms that I was not enrolled. I call stupid rep and she doesn't answer me.
I'm just frustrated.

I can relate to that.
I jumped through hoops at my local university for five years. Not fun. In the end, I still owe them money before I can complete the 30 hours of education I have left for a degree. If I can't come up with the money in the next five years, I forfeit my 120+ hours of education that I have successfully completed.
All I can say is ... stay on top of it, talk to more than just that rep. Talk to everyone you can and even call to see what other grants you qualify for. If, because of your income, you could get on food stamps or welfare you could also qualify for additional financial aid and/or additional educational grants to help you pay for it.

How can they forfeit the 120+ hours of classes you completed? Were those hours paid for after you completed them? They can't hold your transcript ransom for some fees or non-payments you made. Now if the money owed is for specific hours, they can deny to have those included on a transcipt request. But if you have completed courses that are fully paid, they have to release the transcript for those classes and hours. I'd request an unupdated transcript and go find another univerisity to complete my degree.

Yup. That's what they are doing. I can not get my official or even my unofficial transcript without paying off my fees. Ive went around and around with them about it. I'm pissed off at em'.
Anyways, not my rant thread.
Sorry for your troubles gemmy.

I really hope I can get this straightened out by the end of next week. My next college needs my transcript ASAP.

Krista, I'm sorry that you had to go through that... It sucks that you are out of state student so that you can't harass them in person... that's what I did and in the end, they did straighten everything out when my university had issues before... I hope and will pray that all will work out for you.

I so understand what you are feeling. My university tried that with me until my state rep got involved. He took care of it quickly! This is why I do not use online colleges. Thought about going through the university of Phoenix because I know several people who fot there diploma through them.
It is very frustrating indeed.

I really wish I did not have to do online classes. I get distracted very easily and typically bounce between 8 tabs on my screen. I managed to have a 3.47 GPA. I can't do traditional school, since I am required to work a minimum of 45 hours. I don't need a degree. I just want to get my bachelor's. I know it will make more competitive in the workplace and make it easier to get out of retail.
I shall see what my dumb (insert expletive here) of a rep has to say tomorrow. I will also be speaking with her supervisor as well.

You say you don't "need" your degree..... hmmm. You desire your degree is very admirable and that is all that matters. Too bad you can't go see your advisor face to face. On another note a 3.47 GPA is great and is a sign of hard work and dedication.
I however am unable to do online classes because I would end up here or the other sites I have been on. No disapline!!!
Keep it up Krista and try and not to let this bring you down.

3 calls to my rep, 2 to the supervisor and 4 emails to financial and this is today's winning response:
Krista,
We are in the process of getting your aid posted for spring 2. It should be there by tomorrow. Keep you eye out and check the paws account.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Jennifer
That is the response I got when I asked why I am making payments 2 days in a row for terms I did not attend the school. The payments aren't for the term that the aid is posting for.

I swear these people need more proper training...
Yes, yes they do. This Jennifer person has been emailing me like I'm her best buddy and doesn't have proper grammar. I don't expect people to have perfect grammar, since I know I don't. I do expect in emails like this for the person to have a degree of professionalism.

EEK!!! I'm going to have nightmares now.
WOOOOHOOOO!!! The balance that I owed out of pocket is paid in full!!!!! I finally got a hold of a competent person and paid the balance (still have loans). My transcript should be available on Monday.
I found a college in my state that offers online courses. I have an admittance interview scheduled for Thursday. I hope I do well on that. Things are looking good.

Admittance interview? That's new. Most of these online colleges today just want your recent transcripts and cash for the number of hours you want to take. If you were a brand new student with no transferrable hours, I could maybe understand this "interview". Haven't heard of a college that offers online courses being selective as to who can take them.
