Greetings all - I am not a newbe, but I feel like it!! I have been reef keeping for many years. Recently, I happen to have 2 empty 55g tanks ... well we all know that it's just not right to have a empty tank!!! My son is a hobbist also, he has my hand me down 45g & a 125. Here the issue ... I decided that with all of my corals, that I needed a grow out/farming tank so that I can frag more. In this area, I am the one that people comes to to help them set up a tank so I have no one to go to for advice - so here I am. I was going to start from scratch as I always do to cycle this "new" tank, but I followed my son's advice and am trying something new. I placed a hang on with bio wheel HOT Magnum on my well established tank for almost 2 weeks, did a big water change and filled 3/4 of this great water into the tank with only 1/3 of newly made up water. Added approx. 12+ pounds of well cured frag rock in the bottom,( I will be getting more ) a few bigger pieces to help steady the egg crate shelfs, 2 chromis, moved the magnum over and I should be ready to go right???
Something just doesn't feel right!!! It's been up for 5 days, all of the test/readings are just fine but this is just too easy - I think that I may get a diatom outbreak at the least - any opinions???? Anyone???
