I saved a coral today (hopefully)

I was at ***** today with my brother, he was getting some stuff for his FW tank. I was looking at their small saltwater selection, and being disgusted at the same time. They had a large toadstool that was laying down had pebbles on it, but still was open. I felt bad and bought it. When they pulled it out of the aquarium they saw a bristleworm on it that they kindly removed for me. I brought him home, gave it some TLC and now it is in my aquarium. I hope it lives and as I said it is quite large, about twice the size of the one I already had in my aquarium. Once I'm convinced it will be fine I may try fragging it.

annnd now that you have bought that they will buy four more. I know it seems like the right thing to do but its not. That coral cost them 1 fourth what you paid (if that). Buying it just gave them a huge proffit to replenish tanks. Its a lose lose. Don't worry I've done the same thing plenty of times.

They do not make money on thier coral, *****'s P&L for saltwater is a trainwreck. They get fleeced by suppliers because they break into territorries and force thier suppliers to overnight, then tranship them to each location in the group Usually about a dozen stores. Given the requirements for a network of distribuion for such a delicate comodity over a large number of stores and large geography such as this country I think they do a great job. its the knuckle draggers with one finger in thier nose and the other pointing to the pretty fishy that kill the equasion.
Anyone ever test thier water? Its usually quite good. They have policies AGAINST outside help for tank problems and they give the kids shotgun training on how NOT to kill, not on how to raise. Some store rock, some suck, its the staff that make or break it.

I've been to two. One was actually pretty nice, one was awful. it depends on the individuals running the department.

I work for this company part time. If "*****" threads did not get moded all the time i could write a 10 part thread on the crap they pull.
Here is one for you reef heads guess who ***** uses to get their clown fish................................
ORA, thats right ORA. *****’s in NJ use ORA, RVS fish world, Marine fish wholesalers in NY and a couple of others.
Before anyone asked, its a part time job to keep me busy in the hobby. I do not follow their rules for fish keeping and have had no problem telling them to go scratch.
***** could care less if you know your A** from a hole in the ground.
"Follow this outdated manual and be full time employee and you will be a fish specialist".
If your part time and have fish and know something your a "fish tech"
***** still tells people to culture the tank with damsels and clowns.
***** has a “ No hospital tank” rule. If the fish are sick let it go and try and treat the tank with melafix or primafix. If a customer says anything about a hurt or suffering fish use finquel.
Off the record, if a fish is sick or had bad ick or fungus or what ever just kill it. My answer was go pound salt, the fish is curable.
They treat the systems for cynobacteria with maracyn. Just keep dumping the maracyn into the system no worries.
It could just be the Nj store I work in, I don't know. From what I see and hear from other NJ ***** employees, I don't think so.
Then again our manager is an idiot, smokes cigarettes and drinks coffee all day. Never heard of turn over rate and K rating for bulbs and anemones are fine under fluorescent lights, hypo treatment. Feeds brine shrimp juice to the tanks. Yeah a real moron.
States he has had reef tanks for over 15 years. Listen to him talk and you know real quick he lying thru his only tooth he has.
I could go on and on but this will probably get locked.
Oh and yes you did save a coral, but as long as ***** keeps their heads in the clouds about saltwater, any coral that sits to long will die.
