I think I am getting a problem

My tank is 9 weeks old and it is a 55 gallon. I have had a True Perc for two weeks and 2 yellow tail damsels for three weeks. I also have 10 astreas, 10 blue legs(I added these a week and a half ago), and 5 scarlet reefs(I added them Saturday).
I am getting a problem with some algae on the sides of my tank and on the DSB that I have. My hermit crabs(10 blue legs and 5 scarlet reefs)are not eating any of the algae on the sand. Unless they are doing it at night, which it doesn't look like they are. It just keeps growing.
Plus my snails fall off the glass all the timeand they never clean the algae off, they just sit there with there foot stuck to the side or they fall off. I checked today and some of my snails that I turned over after they fell off the side were dead, I think they are dead. But, that being said they usually have a way of tricking me when I check them later. Because they are actually alive.
My water levels are good, I have no nitrates and I my ammonia is 0(I think, I have another post up about that). My fish are great and they are always out and playful and eating. So I do not know why all my crabs and snails are lazy or dead in the snails case.
Can you all tell me why?

your tank is still prety young. if the algae on the sand is brown then give it some time unless it becomes a carpet. The snails and crabs may need more algae. look at night to see if they are more active. Mine do not move much during the day and at night i see about 40 snails cruzing my glass and rock and crabs turning over the sand. What filtration do you have

kyanrkid,
Your tank is still cycling - this is the diatom aglae stage. Keep the tank away from the sunlight and make sure your using RO/DI water during water changes and your fine. It looks nasty and does need you attention. try removing it with your fishnet from the bottom of the tank.
it will eventually go away.

kyarnkid - i don't have an answer but i have a question. Do your True Perc and 2 yellow tail damsels get along? My perc killed off about 3or4 damsels. Are there some kinds of damsels that perc's will get along with?
Thanks

My tank is still cycling after 8 weeks?
I use a Sandman filter and I have a DSB and Prizm Protien Skimmer.
Sinner's Girl,
My True Perc and My Damsels get along great, my clown will sometimes chase them if he goes after their food.

after the initial cycle, you have other stages, that your tank will go through, much like a cycle, and in which, you will probably have algae blooms, but if you are not over feeding, and maintain your h2o quality, they will pass, good circulation is also a key here, more thatn likely, this is what you are experienceing, all newer tanks go through them, it usually takes a couple of months, before all the phases have passed, this is one reason that you do not want to add certain fish before 6 months, after it has paassed, your water will remain more stable, and you will be less likely to have problems like this, unless your water quality goes awry or something
