I wanna Royal Gramma when my levels have been zero for a month... but, well... dunno. Some of you have suggested that I'm already at my limit, while my lfs (good lfs) thinks it'll be fine. I'm HONESTLY not shopping around until I get the answer I want... What do you think.. (Lemme have it).
50 gal long, FOWLR and some inverts, 55lbs LR, 65lb dsb, Fluval 304, Skilter.
1 Young Purple Tang (who will go to a new home when she seems to crowded)
2 Percula Clowns (Common)
2 Small yellow-tail damsels
1 Yellow-Head Sleeper Goby
1 Scooter Blenny
5 snails
4 shrimp
1 star
7 hermits

i would not add anymore fish, but that is my opinion, i would say you will be near overstocked(if not), once they get larger, thisisn't the same lfs that was helping you before is it??(jsut a thought, i seem to remember you having problems recently
btw, i assume all is still going well now, from the posts you have been posting lately

naaaawwww *Not* the same lfs I bought the tang from. Actually, this lfs says no more than they say yes when it comes to swf sales. Some said yes on the Gramma, some said no. I opted not to get it yet because nitrites are STILL at trace.

Sounds like you got a full house to me. I personally would just kick back and watch everybody grow. Though, if you really wanted the gramma. I would go ahead and get rid of the damsels(if you can part with them). They tend to be more than a little aggressive once they get big and are a real pain to remove. Just a thought.

Well... I *really* want the gramma, but I also don't believe in providing a home to the damsels (or any critter) and then "getting rid" of them. In the case of the Tang, I will have to provide her a new home when she is too big. Damsels will stay unless they become a real problem. Tanks. No gramma (sniffle) -- s'kay, I love my tank, just thought a gramma would go well with the others.
Hello @ FOQ. Been in Tucson for 12 years. I live near Campbell & Glenn and I work for the City.

Okay, so NO gramma in the tank as it is. Would I be able to add a gramma if I doubled my LR (over time) -- or does this not make a difference in "overstocking" with fish?
When my Purple Tang finds a new home (and after my tank has aged at least 6 months) could I have a Flame Angel (in place of the Tang) AND a gramma?
No one new will be added now. Thank you for all your help.

Hi Sandy,
If you are waiting for you levels to be zero for a month, and I assume you are talking ammonia and nitrites - and you've yet to reach that goal - then I would say you are already overstocked/overcrowded and should not consider the gramma or any other fish. 7 fish in a 55 is boarderline in my opinion - but that's just me.
I'm sure a lot of people have kept more or larger fish in a 55, I just think those folks are setting themselves up for future problems.
None of us want to encourage or do things that will lead others to having problems - and a keeping a light to medium fish load, with all the cool fish out there, is one of the hardest things to do ...... but one of the easiest things to do reduce future troubles - ya know what I mean ;)
I do like the choice of fish you have in your tank - very nice balance of small/medium sized fish, top, middle and bottom dwellers. I bet they look great ! Sounds like you got it pretty well figured out to me with your tang too.
See ya :D

Thanks broomer. My levels go from zero to trace. If it continues this way, I will go ahead and give up the tang or the damsels. My tank is still only about 7 weeks old and should never have had this stocking level up to this point. Will more LR help?
I have worked hard and am fortunate. I do want to do this right, for me, and for the fish! I like to keep all my animals healthy (3 cats, 2 minpins, a lovebird and the fish tank).
I won't add anyone new... unless with the tang gone I can handle a gramma. Tanks. Sandy
