OK, I'm a little dramatic, but you shoulda seen it! I'm placing a coral that I had taken out to feed, back into the tank. I feel it the moment it hits me!! I look and see the nasty little creature but I don't panic.

I grab a spoon, calmly hand it to my hubby and tell him to scrape it off but don't kill it!
Here's the damage...

Then I wiped the blood for a shot of the gaping hole in my arm!!

Wow! Do they just attack out of no where like that? Do they harm other fish? Kinda scary, I'm afraid to even put my hand in my tank now!

In his case, elbow-high gloves, wouldn't made a difference...
the bite, was mid arm so, the gloves would have been 6-8 inches distal.
But, nice try...

Theyve probably been in there since you added your LR. Check your fish for these buggers. They could even be in their mouths as back as far as the gill plate.
For those of you who have never seen these before, its a type of isopod (similar to a copepod) that is a parasite. Usually feeding on fish, it will bite us too. They can actually grow to be about a foot long in the wild, but chances of one that large being in our tanks is very slim. Im guessing it would have to come in on a load of LR that size.

OK the actual isopod was iddy biddy! About 1/3 inch or so.
My tank has been fishless for 5 weeks now, but I still feed my corals. A couple of corals I remove from the tank to feed.
As I was placing one of them back, about 20 inches down, I feel it latch on! It felt like...a mosquito bite I think. He was between my elbow and shoulder on the back of my arm.
I saw him and the first thing I thought was an angry amphipod. But the bite pain was getting worse. So I got down off the chair, and looked around for something to get it off with, that's when I found the spoon.
My hubby laughs at me cause he said I kept telling him, just take the spoon but don't kill it.
He didn't take the spoon cause he didn't know what I was talking about, and I couldn't turn to show him, til he took the spoon, lol.
He still panicked and the isopod ended up on the floor.

If you have a spider or snake phobia, you'd understand. Cause these guys give me the heebie jeebies.
But at the same time, I wanted pics, lol.
I have looked for more, but short of sticking my arm in the tank, I don't know if I'll find them.
My fish were all due to go back intot he tank in a week. Looks like that may not happen now.
