This is the post terry left me
This is a good example of why I keep telling everyone to keep a cycled Qtank up and running at all times. It is frustrating that people don't listen and most of them won't even quarantine until after they kill some fish. Why does everyone resist quarantining? It is one of THE MOST IMPORTANT things you can do to be successful in this hobby not an optional thing.

My answer is as follows
There is no good answer terry. I can only speak on my experience.
I spend a load of cash getting my tank up and running, so I had little play money left. I said to myself. I will get 1 fish in there and then I will do what a ton of people say on swf.com and set up a qt
I got the fish in with no problem (lucky) and all was well.
I read somemore and see terry, beth and all the other well respected people bitching and yelling QTQTQTQT.
Man I have to get that qt in right now. I start reading about it and thinking about what I need and it is only gonna cost 40 bucks tops. But wait what is this I am reading about A NEW RO/DI UNIT!!! I gotta have it.
Well after all that I gotta get a NEW fish. Seems good, I have a handle on it. Wash rinse repeat and bang tank meltdown.
Bottom line is qt/hospital tanks are not cool, pretty, fun, or exciting. But they are also not an option.
Thank you terry for laying that out in black and white for me. You made me realize my own quest for the best componets was killing fish, causing me grief, and detracting from my enjoyment.
I think it is way too easy to think a skimmer, ro unit, new uv filter, or new blue widget will make everything better and easier. I will now take quality advice quicker than a new componet
I hope that title did not cause trouble. I knew it would draw lots of hits.

Well, that was an attention getter. Thanks for the affirmation. Yes, we do preach somewhat here in the Disease Forum, sometimes to the offense of others, but there are some things that just are not options, as you so aptly said in your post. And after members sharing so many of their disasters here with us, we do get a tad emphatic here.
Glad to hear you'll be QTing.
