I am always amazed at how brown the coral are when snorkeling off the keys. Wife and I just did a trip off Key Largo at Pennekamp and she also commented on how drab everything looks compared to the aquarium. The brain coral frag in my tank......................

I totally agree with you man. My girlfriend have been snorkeling in the keys quite a bit. Florida Keys reefs are not real pretty honestly. The only colorful critters were some fish, various gorgonian species and sponges. I saw some very pretty french, blue and queen angels. I saw about every reef fish there is to see on this last trip at once. That's the first time that had happened. Only thing I didnt see was an octopus.
Nice brain coral by the way

Also Keys reefs are IMO overpopulated with the Sergent Major damselfish.
Just sayin.................

my girlfriend and I are going to Fiji next spring so I assume I will see a little more vibrant colored corals, fish, anemones etc.
