i doubt stargazer is really as dangerous as the SWF claims.....otherwise...they wouldn't have it on sale.....but..who knows? it might be capable of producing 10,000V electric shock.....:scared: i personally wouldn't buy something that you don't have much informatin on........just simply too risky......

see my post and photos in another thread (Electric Stargazer)...I didn't see you r question, or I'd have put it here.
Mine have never shocked me, although they can deliver about 50v.
I once saw an egret catch a small one and each time he tried to swallow it, all his feathers would stand up and he'd spit it back out.......must have been really hungry though, as after about 20 minutes the little stargazer got swallowed for good.
And yes, I was chasing the stupid bird all over trying to get it to drop it!!!!! ***grin**

I have seen shrimpers pull them up here and get shocked badly. They can be dangerous especially to those with heart conditions. We talked about these in my ichthylogy class last week, the voltage was closer to around 400v. The bird was able to eventually swallow the fish because of fatigue on the fish's part, it couldnt continue to keep building up a charge and each jolt was weaker and weaker. In my job last summer I was hit with 210v and was knocked into a wall doing the kicking chicken, I sure as hell would not want to get hit with 400v.

As to the Stargazer, sometimes a picture is worth 1,000 words.
All I can say is that I've NEVER been shocked by one and have caught dozens (we are a little dubious of some shrimpers and their stories down here as they work by the bottle".**grin**)
I HAVE, however, been poked good by a true S American Eletric eel and THAT puppy knocked me all the way accross the room (up to 700v, but no amperage).
I named him Edison, and eventually he'd let me clean his tank, rearrange rockwork, etc........when he's had enough he'd "tingle" the hair on the back of my fingers (3 times) enough to let me know I should quit.
He taught me to understand the "3 strikes rule" very well.

I figured out who you are Conogre, recognize your profile from somewhere else. I bow to your much more learned experience than my own. I still wouldnt buy one though heheh, especially not have an entire large tank devoted to one fish that I would literally never see except at dinner, thats like having teenage kids who can drive, always out with their friends but when dinner time and free food comes around, there they are.

I saw that fish, and thought that it was SO cool. I don't know anything about it. I like the pix of yu holding the fish that is very neat. When I clean my 180, my sting ray rubs my arm, like she is petting me. How big do those guys get? They look really cool.

The book says up to 26", but none of mine have ever gotten larger than 12" or so.
I LIKE the analogy about the teen-agers!!! GOOD ONE!!!!
They DON'T have top be maintained alone and can be kept with other similar sized predators....mine were in a 300 with lionfish, a stonefish, a 6-line grouper, 2 tangs, a foxface and 4 eels.
Surprisingly they are easily killed by triggerfish and filefish who nip their eyes out!
Bye the way, Harlequin, what do you mean WHO I am? What?
Do I have a secret identity or something? If so what are my powers...I desperately NEED to know (X-ray vision would be good**evil grin**)

D.Mandaneau perhaps on that other reef board for aggressive fishes? I dont know if that comes with secret powers but swords are still cool for super heros to use in an age of guns. Am i right or is this the evil twin? Actually havent seen you on this board before today.

I've been here before, and actually float all over here and there but some other sites don't let me play with my camera. **grin**
And no, that's me, not my evil twin (although I AM a gemini!!! **grin**)...this name was coined while playing D&D with my sons back in.......well, let's just say a long time ago! LMAO.
