ICH course length??

Hi,
I have QT my 3 fish I have, an emporer angel and 2 clowns. I had a fishless tank for 2 weeks.. (no fish, just inverts, anenome, leather coral) My question is...... How long do I leave mymain tank without fish to get rid of the ich that is floating around my tank? ALL my fish died of ICH because of the stress of catching them to QT them... So I just left tank empty for 2 weeks..... I put in 2 clowns, they seemed fine. so I added the emporer.. =(
Well, I saw signs of ICH on all of them in 2 days..... So I took them out, dipped them in formalin and put in QT. (uncycled) so I will have to be diligent with water changes.
I cannot treat my main tank...... maybe turn up the heat in my main tank to draw out the ICH and then treat it with somehting reef safe? I cannot imagine the ICH always being there??? Maybe I have to leave my main tank fish free for a longer time so the ICH will die off.... ANY THOUGHTS>??
Thanking you Kindly, Kim

Well I am literally currently trying a new formulae of RX-P and PolyOX on my tank, that is reef safe and very effective on ich apparently. But I cant recommend it until i have tried it and completed myself, only takes 3 days or so so I shall keep you posted.
Until then all the best,
Tim.

Can Ich host on dead stuff? Like if there's a dead hermit or snail with the water that is ridding itself of ich? Or what about hosting on shrimp you put in to feed shrimp... That sounds funny.. I feed my shrimp little pieces of shrimp..... :) Anyway, if there was some left uneaten, could they use it to continue the life cycle?
Thanks.

IMO , I do not think snails-hermits and other inverts can host ich . I believe fish are the only host . I have seen a thread on this before , can't seem to find it now ....
with feeding - brine shrimp or whatever else live food will decay which would not be live to be a host , jmo ...

Hi,
Just a quick side note. If you talk to any marine biologist there are always ich spores active in any fish tank. How many is alway TBD. Stressing any fish often lowers their ability to fight the ich off. Hope that fun fact helps.

IMO, Ich cannot cycle without a host. So a tank left fishless for more than 21 days should end the cycle. I do think that the parasite co-exist with it's host. As long as no unusal disturbance takes place, it will continue it's existence in harmony with it's host.

Thanks alot for all your info. I will keep my tank "fish" free for about a month and than we will see. ????? This is so DISTURBING!! I dipped my new fish too, but I guess I didnt wait lng enough, I have heard 3-7 day from ALL LFS people. I will just have to TELL THEM! I just lost my 90 dollar emporeor angel in QT... havent even started hypo yet.!!! He did a funny thing. He wasnt showing that much ICH, I was doing it to CATCH the outbreak.. he sort of lost his intestines through what looked like his anus>>>>??????
Thanking you kindly, Kim

Ich may not co-exist in every fish, But I do believe that it does co-exist in many fish. From the hundreds of articles post on Cryptocaryon Irritans, I'm not alone on this issue.
