Ich Gone Yet?

The first time I added fish they got ich within a few days. That really sucked for me. Now my tank has been fishless for about 16 weeks, partly because I am still waiting for my LFS to get me another pair of CB perculas, and I am afraid to add more fish because of the ich. Has the ich died off after 16 weeks yet? I know this has been explained before, but there are so many ich posts I just figured it would be easier to ask. Thanks!

Yes, it has. I'm assuming you will QT these fish this time? Otherwise, waiting even a year to add fish is not likely to help you much.

The best thing to do is not buy rock that is kept in the same tank as fish. Most stores that have rock don't have fish in their rock tanks. But you need to check to see if the rock tank and the fish tanks share plumbing, filters.

Thank you for the replies. I do understand the purpose of a QT, but would I need to QT my next fish if those are the only fish in the tank? There wouldn't be any worry of spreading the disease because no other fish are present, right?

And what happens if the new fish get ich? Can you treat them in the tank?

Good point. If they get ich then I got a 1 gallon container I can float on the top of the water to treat them. No water can go in or out of the 1g. I dump a little of the water down the drain every hour or so and add more tank water. That is what I did last time they got sick. Turned out after further reasearch that they probably had ich, and I was treating them as if they had brooklynella.
If you don't think that would be a great idea I can setup a QT from one of my 10g tanks. I currently don't have a QT right now.
