i just had a bad ich out break that killed a few clown fish and a blenny. i still have a snowflake eel, many inverts, a small coral and a damsel that survived, how long will i want to wait to add new fish?
also when i do add new fish i do the drip acclimation, ive heard of new fish being put in qt for a few weeks before going into display, is this something i would want to do or is the drip method fine?

I have had ich outbreaks a few times. I tried the whole quarentine tank thing and they still came down with it because I did not wait long enough. Since you have fish still in your display your going to have ick. So they say.....
I have had 2 clowns, goby, dottyback survive 3 ich outbreaks and they never visually got it. It was my stupid powder blues I always got.
I left them in the display and did not add any new fish for over a month.
Added a hippo tang and he came down with it. I fed him everyday (not soaked in garlic) and he got over it within a few days.
The fish have all been fine and happy for months now. I honestly think you can over come an ich outbreak if the fish are not stressed and you feed them good. Good water quality and so on. It seemed to work for me this time around.
Putting new fishies in quarentine is always the best way to go but I would leave your tank the way it is for at least 8 weeks.

Unless you treat the whole display tank its my understanding that you always have ich parasites in the sand, rocks and water. They are reproducing when you see visible spots "eggs" on the fish. The reproduction cycle can go for almost 8 weeks if not treated. Your fish may survive the first time but it will come back if they are stressed and have a low immune system. As for garlic. it doesnt treat fish it entices them to eat due to strong smell!
I would treat the tank for 2 weeks doing water changes every other day, and then wait a week after to add anything new!
good luck

fish in DT = host, host=ich, the life cycle must be broken, and the fish in your DT now, must be treated,or you will forever have ich.Its the way of life for this pesky bug.

if the tank remains fallow for about 6 weeks, the cycle will be broken as there is no host for the parasite to infect and it will die out.
