Ich On My Tang

I recently got a hippo tang (regal)after reading what a gental fish it was. Not until I got it home did I read that it was so pron to ich outbreaks! Anyway, I have had the fish for 2 weeks and all was well, but now I see that he has small little ichs all over him. I have set up a hospital tank in a bare 29 gallon. My question is should I use cooper or the Hypo method I have read so much about? What is the lowest salinity that you should allow your water to get to? What if you read your hydrometer wrong and it goes down to 1.008 or 7... is this a risk for your fish? Also, should I treat just the Hippo Tang or all of my fish? He is the only one that a noticable case.
Thanks in advance for your advise.
P.S. Posted this on the other forum, but no one is there right now.

By reading your post I guess you know that 1.009 is where you want to be. That is correct. When I did it I took a sample of my water to two different pet shops and compared my readings at home to thier readings and found a medium. One or two point off shouldn't be harmful(JMO). When reducing the salinity, you should drop the level about two levels per day. I don't know if you knew that or not but I thought I mention it cause you said you had a hospital tank. Hypo is the best way to go. I forgot! You cannot use this method with inverts, l/r, or l/s. good luck.

Raisng your temp will help. Maybe 82 if there are no inverts. Also, for fish only tanks, Greenex will work well on some parasites. It may die your silicone tho if it is glass, and might hurt liverock animals too.
If you are able to have a hospital tank, and know what your doing, I'd treat the hippo or any fish there.

I would agree with Puffer. It seems that the vast majority feel that hypo is not only safer, but causes less stress on the fish. Maybe you could even soak some of its food in garlic juice. Your fishy might get bad breath, but you're not gonna be puckering up anytime soon right? <wink>
Hope your fish is ok!

BTW I'm really glad to hear you have a QT tank!
