I have a question and would like to know if anyone can give me some advice. 2 years ago we bought a 50 gal marine tank. Had no problems with it for about 6 months, the fish in it were great. Bought a fish that must have been sick, ended up in 2 months all my fish were dead from what looked like ich. Bought several other fish, used Mariene Oomed, didn't work, dipped the fish, didn't work. Gt tired of dropping $$, so i decided to let the tank lay empty of fish. Tank has been emty for 9 months now. All the water quality indicators are good, I want to re-introduce fish, and am wondering if I should install an ultraviolet sterilization system. Do they work, how long should I run it to assure fairly complete sterilization of the water, how much and what are some good brands, etc. Thanks.

If your tank has been void of fish for 9 mos, there is no problem in starting to add fish again.
IMO, the UV sterilizer is worth purchasing to assist with parasite prevention, to a lesser expent with harmful disease causing bacteria and free-floating algae.
