i have a hippo tang with one spot of ick on its fin. my question is, if i put the tang in a hospital tank, or if it dies, which i hope it doesnt, does the ick go with the fish, or is the ick still in the tank even after its gone? where does the ick come from, the fish, or is it in the water or rock?

You are gonna here as I said in your other post that mild cases of ick can be beat with the aid of Garlic in the diet. One spot means that there is probably quite a few little icks ( best way I could put it ) in your substrate about to infect the fish . If the fish dies then ick will still be in your tank for I think I heard 30-45 days. Garlic won't cure ick but it will strenthen the fish immune system to hopefully beat the case of ick. Start the Garlic ASAP until you decide that hypo or copper is needed.

ok, thanks. i will get the garlic and i will also get some seaweed for it too. the ick doesnt affect the inverts then? so if i leave my tank fishless for a month or so, then the ick will eventually die out?

One spot on the fin does not necessarily mean that your fish tank is going to have an outbreak. Do you have a hospital tank? What type tank setup do you have?
