ich question
I am pretty familiar with ich and yes it is in my tank. I know the steps I need to take to get it out of my tank, however, I do not have a QT tank and my main tank has l/r and corals. I do put garlic on my fishes food and the ich has stayed away, until recently within about a 1 week time period, I purchased about 60 lbs of l/r and added it to the tank, this occurred in 2 diffferent trips, so the tank changed shape a few times in 1 week, I'm assuming this is what stressed my purple tang out to the point that about a week ago, he had a horrible outbreak of ich. It has not gone away...normally if he has an outbreak it is only 1 or 2 spots. He is still eating fine and acting normal, just has the white spots all over his body. I know one thing I can do is a fresh water dip. Has anyone done this and does it work? I have seen ich meds at the fish store that can be used in a reef tank...has anyone ever used these and do they work? I realize they won't get the ich out of my tank, but for the time being I'm just looking for a solution to get the ich off my fish. Please help. thanks.

FW dips will not cure ich. The ich is actually in your tank as well as on your fish. Thus, even if you did rid the fish of some of the parasites that were directly on your fish with a dip, the infestation would still be in your tank.
I would not put any meds in a reef tank. But, I haven't tried it either.
