Ich?

My yellow tang has a small white clump like thing on his right fin.
I looked through pictures of fish with ich and they all have multiple dots all over their body and I don't know if this one dot on my tang looks anything like any of the pictures...
Can one white spot on a fin still be ich?
It's not discoloration or anything... It actually looks like a grain of sand stuck to his fin.

It could be ich. It could be the beginnings of lymphocystis which is a white clumpy growth. One spot is not necessarily cause for alarm. If it goes away and returns in a few days more pronounced (more spots), you've got a problem to address. Lymph will grow but usually clears up on it's own given good water/diet. Keep an eye on it for a few days and see what shakes out.

It's not on his body...
It's only on the one fin.
It has been just over a week now and there are no other white dots on the tang or on any other fish but the white clump is still on his fin.
I have noticed the Tang scratch up against some live rock though...
I've been feeding him garlic but... nothing yet.
It might be some other condition.
If he'd stay still long enough for me to take a picture of his fin, I'll put one up.

if you are able to quarantine the fish in a seperate tank ...do so immediatly. a find with fins a little melafix help speed up the growth if they are thrashing in the tank. conduct vigorous water changes in th qt tank. ive gotten rid of most fish illnesses by just ramping up water quality and allow the fish system to do the rest. ganted meds do help alot but never undeestimate the power of a fish immune system. provided they have had the right conditions.. but getting him out of the display tank will minimize a full blown epidemic. good luck
