I am getting ready to add more lr to my tank but last time I added a little within 2 weeks a3 of my fish had ick and died. I have just recently added a couple of neat fish and dont want to kill them off. Is there anyway I can help avoid this or at least protect my fish

Are you sure the rock you bought was cured? If not, it may not have been ick that killed them...

I am not sure if it was cured. My tank was previously FO then I put in some dr so I dont know a whole lot about lr. The lfs told me it was from fiji and sometimes they have problems with it. A different person told me later at the same store that I shouldnt have problems with the new stuff I just wondered if anyone else has had similar problems.

Did you check the levels in your tank when you found the fish dead?
If the LR was uncured, it will have a lot of die off, creating an ammonia spike in your tank, which can kill your fish.
Next time you buy LR, ask them if it is cured or not. It should be cured for around 6 weeks or so prior to adding it to an established tank. Uncured rock is great for a new tank that is cycling, but not for an established tank.

No there were no fish in the lr tub and I checked my water after the first fish died and a week later after I lost the other two and everything was in normal range.

One of the best things I could think of doing is a few days before and fore a few months after you had the rock mix with you fishes food kent-zo(If that is how you spell it). I is like fish vitamins.
Ulike copper whithc trys to kill the ick and can also kill the fish.
I is like when you have the cold and get lots of rest and eat chiken noodle soop. The soop of the rest don't cure the cold, but it helps your body fight of the alment natraly.
I had a problem with ick once andy could not seem to get rid of it but after I started using kent-zo within a coulple of day my fish was beter. Turns out I was haveing HUGE temputure swings.
But if you want to ad the rock that is what I would do.
