ick and wrasses

Beth, sep, others that are informed here is a hypothetical.
lets say i am about to receive two wrasse known for being quite resilient to disease with thick slime coats. (ex yellow chrysus)
i usually run my QT tanks with NO sand and NO rock, just plain with some artificial hiding places, but for these fish that require a sand bed to sleep, i have converted one of my QTs to have an aragonite bottom.
in attempting to keep an ick-free DT, do you keep the fish for 1 month without taking action unless something appears, or can you skip the QT time frame with these? maybe a shortened time frame? other thoughts?

3 weeks is fine, but not less. Keep in mind that the QT is not just to observe for ich, but any disease that may arise. You need that time period to address this, and stabilize the fish's health and condition after having experienced so many stressful events during moves, etc. Isolation in a good environment with excellent water conditions gives a new fish the time it needs to gain health, weight, and stability without the stresses of a community tank.
