Hello last night i had 2 fish with ick. Last night my eel ate one of them. Now my royal gramma has no white spots and is not rubbing himself on the rocks anymore? Is this possible?
me again, it will come back. it's kinda like a cold or a fever, it gets worse - night. Get your uv. Oh yeah, the eel is probably stressing the hell outtof your gramma, probably the ick cause
and... don't forget the Kent Garlic Extreme. 2 drops/teaspoon of food once a day for 3 days then do it once every week or two to keep the immune system strong for fighting off the disease.
It would help to know far more about these fish, other inhabitants, when you added them and tank parameters.
FWIW, you do not need a UV to kill the parasite, and yes, fish can fight it off themselves if healthy and otherwise not subjected to stress. But that is not always the case.
I'm definitely not saying it is cured, but you still need to ask what is causing the stress. How long you've had these fish, are they compatible, and what the water chems are.
as long as your fish are healthy you can have ick in your system and not on your fish. What probably happen is the ick para was rubbed off by the fish and now is reproducing in your substrate. With some luck it wont find a host again and will die in your system. If you add a new fish (host) most likely will become infected with the parasite. It takes about two months for ick to die without finding a host.. Just keep that in mind.
I had ick in my system back when I was stocking it with fish. I think it killed one fish before it was all said and done. I never had to hypo the tank, nor did i treat it with anything. Im not saying this is the way to go.. It could have infected all my fish.. but it didnt.. Ive had my system going now for two years.
Ok here goes the tank is about 2 months old maybe a little older.
Ammonia Nitrite and PH are good
Nitrates are areoung .15ppm
Temp is 80
Within the lst week i moved the tank from my girlfriends house to my house which is about a 30 minute drive. I'm guessing it's the cause of the stress.
The gramma was in great health and eats alot and still is.
The eel only eats live fish that are small.
I'll be getting bigger fish from now on
To tell you the truth the fish are the least thing i want in my tank. I do love them but i live inverts and corals and stuff much better.
people think i'm crazy
I don't think you are crazy but you won't have it with that eel. Strange combination. No wonder everything is stressed out! Are your other levels "0" and pH about 8.2?
Hey Cobain...if you're going reef, those trates have to be at O. Fish can handle a few trates, but inverts and corals cannot. You should add more live rock and/or live sand to lower those levels. Also, keep up on H20 changes, use R/O water (a must for reefs). Do your homework or you will kill living creatures and waste lots of $$$!
Well i love the eel but i also offered it to anyone in mass for free and no one wants it!. I love the thing. I guess what i want equals 2 tanks. I wish i had the room......So now i'm stuck as to what i want to do.... ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................. . . .
Well everyone it's been atleast 5 days since the ICK was on my fish and i have not seen anything come back. I did nothing. Removed no fish. Treating nothing. The clown got eaten but theg ramma is doing great and stopped rubbing against the rocks. I know that they had ick because i've had it a few times in freshwater. the spots went away over night and never came back. I'm guessing the move i put them through weakened them but there imune system built back up once they got comfortable again and killed it off... That all i can think of
