Ick in main tank. . .

My royal gramma has been living in my 90 gal comfortably for about 3 weeks. Everythings been okay, but the other day, I noticed a few white spots on his caudal rays. They have not spread or anything, but if it is ick, how long is it generally in the main tank. Im not sure if its his colouring or what, but I have been feeding with garlic, and my cleaner shrimp do a great job. Basically, most of his spots are gone, but how long would they last without a fish host?
Its not that I am impatient, but how long of a wait would you wait before adding another fish? I was going to add a flame angel yesterday, but just in case, Id rather not...

If you are concerned about ick being in your tank, then you need to see what develops with the fish currently in the tank---say at least 2-3 wks. Also, you should quarentine any new fish so that you avoid infecting your tank with anything a new fish might bring with it.
