<strong>sb23, I think we've gone down this road already. Pick a method and go through with it. If you're fish only, then use hyposalinity and keep it there. 1.015 is in no man's land and you aren't doing you or your fish any favors. It isn't like if you are half way there, it'll be half way better. You need to get to 1.009 to break the ich lifecycle.
Either choose copper of hyposalinity to treat. Both can't be done with inverts. With hypo you need an accurate hydrometer and no inverts. With copper, you need a barebottom tank and no inverts. Both will have the normal amm/nitr/ph issues that you will have to watch it your tank isn't cycled.

My tank is cycled, I lost a blue tang yesterday after I saw it had ick, by lowering the salinity to 1.009, will my cycle have to restart will it affect any of my biological filtration, also how long do I need to keep the salinity at this level, also if I have a 100g tank, how much freshwater should I add at one time to get the salinity down

<strong>No, your biological filter will not be affected. You can lower over a period of 48 hours, but since you're half way there, you can lower the rest of the way. Two things to watch out for : You MUST have an accurate way to measure it. It must be at 16ppt or less. Swing arm hydrometers will not work. I can't stress this more. The second is, watch your ph. It will drop, and you want to try and keep it at 8 or higher.
Ed, will it affect my live sand, also do you suggest I turn of my uv sterilizer, also should I add any fish to the tank while doing this?
You will need to keep it here for 3 weeks minimum. Basically at least two weeks after no other symptoms are there. Easiest way to do this is to remove half of your water and add water over several hours until you get to 1.009.

The UV is irrelevant in doing hyposalinity. it can stay on or off. If you have to medicate later with any meds, then you should turn it off later.

Should I wait to put any more fish in the tank or should I test it out prior to the 3 weeks?
