Ick question

how does one know when a tank is free of ick? a lfs person told me today that ick is present in every tank. he says if a fish is stressed due to temperture fluctuation or chemical in balance will cause the fish to get infected easier. if this is true... wouldnt most, if not all their fish is sick from ick? fish are constantly being stock and sold, i'm sure that will stress the fish out of its mind.

I think that the reason that the LFS said that ick is present in every tank is because it is nearly always present in the LFS tanks as they are always adding new fish to their system quite often without being able to properly quarenteen them. When you bring a stressed new fish home to your tank it has been exposed to ick at the LFS and can easily bring it into your tank. Lesley
