Hippos are known for there ick problems.
Try feeding garlic soaked food, it has helped many.
For more information I would first post this in the disease amd treatment section and then do a search on this board for garlic or ick

I'm glad I found this thread...
We have a Kole Tang which appears to have the same thing happening to it...over the past two weeks he would develop spots one day and they would be gone by the next. This has happened three times.
Should we take him out and quarantine him now? The tank has 100# of live rock and many inverts. Can you recommend any reef safe meds or do you suggest we remove all fish (8) for 4 weeks?

hey pisces01 , i have a large hermit crab and my icky hippo follows him around everywhere. is your tang nudging at inverts? if it is theres a good reason, cleaner shrimp will eat the ick off of some tangs and the fish allow it.my hippo and i belive your kole was on the list.I dont have a cleaner shrimp so i guess he's trying any invert he can find.also soak his food in a good vitamin suppliment such as (KENT)ZOE,this will provide essintial vitamins-&-nutrients,that will build his ammune system and help to battle the ick and help keep it from coming back.i found all this info from doing a search on this site, which i suggest you do because you,ll find alot more info. good luck

Lettheirberock...we don't have any cleaner shrimp at the moment, the one we had died. When he was alive, the Kole would always seek him out. Right now we have a Cleaner Wrasse and the Kole seems to follow him around. Its quite funny to watch actually. He'll hover beside the wrasse waiting to be cleaned.
As for food, we don't actually feed our Kole. He eats off the rocks and the glass. We've tried Red Algae on a clip but he won't touch it (the cleaner wrasse loves it though). Doesn't even pick at the flake or reef formula we put in the tank for the other fish. I don't know how we'd ever feed him a supplement. Anyone have any ideas? Is there another type of food we should be trying?
Old Yeller Tang, what types of Tangs do you keep? I didn't think you could have more than one (of most species)...I'd like to know what you have. I think I will try the kick ick. Thanks!

Being the recipient of ich when I returned from England (my kids were watching the fish) I lost 2 dwarf angels, three damsels and tow false clowns (all were very happy until the incedent). I tried kick-ich and had insignificant results. I then tried green-X (a day late) and my ich problem was ended - Green-X is reef safe, costs less than kick-ich and worked by interrupting the ich life cycle. I now have a couple more false clowns (they are fun to watch) and a handful of damsels. I add a few drops of Green-X each time I introduce a new member to the tank and then a few more drops 48 hours later. I haven't seen ich since and plan on keeping the Green-X around for safety sake. I will be getting some garlic and have already purchased medicated food (I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE ANY MORE FISH).
So take heart - you may not be able to save this one - but learn early and be careful.
